Young women from Nyamira County have been challenged to turn up in large numbers at the department of registration for official application for National Identification cards.

This comes after a number of Nyamira County Assembly members raised concerns regarding the escalating number of young women who had allegedly surpassed official registration age without seeking the document from relevant offices.

Speaking during the launching of the application of National Identity Cards at his Manga backyard on Tuesday, Nyamira County Assembly Chief Whip Peter Maroro urged women to take the exercise seriously and youths who had just completed high school.

“It’s sad that most of recently married women have not applied for National IDs. As assembly, we requested the office of immigration to conduct mobile registration hence this is the chance to turn up in large numbers to register for you own well, even youths who recently completed their high school education,” he said.

According to the ODM ward representative, application for the crucial national document was essential in boosting the living standards of area residents by giving them access to a number of opportunities.

“You all know that it’s difficult to get essential services without the national ID. But we have been having problems among the young married women and a section of youths. It’s cumbersome for you to get help be it from government or an NGO. It is therefore advisable to take the exercise seriously,” he added.

The exercise is expected to be carried out in all the 20 wards from Nyamira County with the county government facilitating mobility of officials from the department of immigration and registration.
