Workers of the defunct Kisumu Municipal Council have petitioned the county assembly in a bid to recover some of the money not remitted as a loan by the council.
In a petition read in the house on Tuesday by South East Nyakach MCA Petronila Omondi, the workers said they took a loan from CFC Stanbic Bank and the agreement was check off servicing by the employer.
They said the employer, Kisumu Municipal Council, failed to remit the check off, but in their salary slips it was deducted.
Omondi told the house that the workers union has tried following the matter with the council to no avail.
“Madam Speaker, Kisumu County Workers Union has been following this matter but they have failed to record any success, that is why the petitioner and coming for help in this house,” she said.
She said the bank is now threatening to auction and process properties of the workers to be able to recover its money.
Omondi said the petitioners want the assembly to form an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter and compel the council to refund the money they swindle from the workers.
Acting Speaker Pamela Omino directed that the petition be served to her office and office of the clerk for further deliberation and action.
