Police in Yatta sub-county are pursuing a gang that allegedly kidnapped a woman in Ikuu village in Uika location on Sunday.
The 56 year old Judith Kaari was abducted from her home after a gang of more than six men forced entry into her house after hacking the watchman with a panga leaving him with serious injuries.
Her husband Ellis Mbaka, a lecturer at Kenya Methodist University in Meru was not present during the attack.
The gang demanded Kaari, who is a business woman in Yatta, to avail the proceeds of the day before ordering her into her car.
Confirming the incident Yatta deputy OCPD Caleb Matoke told this writer on phone that the group gained entry into the premises after breaking through the farm gate before attacking the watchman.
“The watchman sustained deep panga cuts and is currently recuperating at Yatta Sub County Hospital. He will assist us with investigations once he recovers," he said.
However, the victim was found at 5am in a plantation in Ugwiri village in the nearby Masinga Sub-County on Monday morning. A woman discovered her tied to a tree with a seat belt plucked from her car. Her hands were tied up and her mouth muted using a masking tape.
The officer said the victim sustained minor injuries on her back and legs and was taken to hospital for examination before she was discharged.
Mr Matoke has asked the public to be vigilant and enhance community policing and Nyumba Kumi initiative to guarantee each other’s security.
