Young members of county assembly from Nyamira County have been criticised for allegedly failing to push for youth agendas in the assembly, making it difficult for area youths to benefit from the devolved units.

Speaking at Risa primary school during a fundraiser, Nyamira youths led by Gesima ward aspirant Timothy Ogato faulted the young MCAs and urged them to up their games by taking youth agandas to the assembly for the sake of development.

They challenged the MCAs to reach the youths in the grassroots level to collect their views on issues affecting them besides helping already existing youth groups.

“We have young MCAs in Nyamira County assembly but we are not satisfied with the representation in the assembly. They ought to come to the grassroots and reach youths by collecting some of their views on governance. It is also important that they support youth groups,” he said.

Mr Ogato also weighed in on the former leader of majority, Buttah Omanga, for his alleged participation in taking briberies that had cost many youths jobs.

“We recently saw Mr Omanga being taken to court for allegedly having taken a bribe. This is a poor picture to the entire youth fraternity and partly shows that our argument is legitimate,” he added.

However, nominated MCA Fred Menge defended the young MCAs in the assembly, faulting the department of youths which he accused of delaying to implement some of the Bills that had been passed.

“We have passed a lot of legislations that are for the benefit of our youths. The Ministry of Youths should take responsibility for failing to implement the Bills,” he said.
