An association of young professionals in Kisii has called on the county government to adhere to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive that 30 per cent of government tenders be given to women, youths and the disabled.

According to Kisii Young Professional Forum Chairman Donicious Obai, many youths are being locked out of tenders meant for them after even having complied with the requirements.

Speaking at the Kisii County Hall on Friday during a youth workshop, Obai said he feared that the discontent among the youths could be signs that the county government was wavering on an earlier commitment to ensure only deserving beneficiaries get the tenders.

“The issue of tenders is a subject that is very close to the heart of most youths in this county, and we are watching very keenly to ensure that the county government is not jut paying lips service to it,” stated Obai

The youth leader further claimed the allocation of the 30 per cent tenders is shrouded in mystery, and now wants the county to publish a list of all the entities, and their owners, that have been awarded contracts under the new tender rule.

He at the same time, appealed to the county to conduct capacity building forums aimed at empowering residents including youths with knowledge on the tendering process.
