Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has called on the youth to unite and form cooperatives. Speaking in Eldoret on Tuesday Mandago dismissed claims that cooperative societies are formed by the old people in the society saying that this was a mentality of the past. He was speaking while officially opening training by the International Leadership Institute to different groups from the county on leadership and other issues. Approximately 250 people are set to benefit from the training.

“Cooperatives are not a thing for the old people only. The youth should embrace them too. They even make it easy to access funds," Mandago said. He also refuted claims that the county government of Uasin Gishu was not allocating funds for cooperative societies.

Mandago called on youths to take up the challenge and form companies for infrastructure noting that the government had bought equipment for road construction and was ready to hire them out to the youth.

He said that the county government was training youth from different parts of the county for different courses.

“We are committed to using the resources we have in the county to ensure that the youth get empowered, educated and employed," Mandago said.
