Youth in Lari Sub-County have been urged to work with police in a bid to tame rising cases of insecurity in the region by giving information about suspects.
Addressing residents at Kimende Location on Thursday, the Lari Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Mr Bernard Kinyua said security had been deteriorating in the area recently thou the police are working to curb this menace.
Kinyua stated that youth in the region should come out and help the police in the fight against crime adding that they could be having information that may help in the arrest of criminals.
“I want to appeal to young people and all residents to support security initiatives aimed at curbing crime in Lari and its environs,” he said.
The officer noted that more police officers have been deployed in the areas perceived to be crime prone adding that 24 hours security patrols will be conducted.
“Residents have been complaining of rising insecurity and want the police to improve their security operations. A man was recently murdered and his body dumped nearby but the culprits are yet to be arrested. This is a clear indication that security personell in the area need to work together to enhance security in the area,” said Kinyua.
Kinyua asked residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi Initiative saying it has been successful in various parts of the county like Kikuyu as it has led to the arrest of several criminals.
A business lady in the region MS Miriam Mukabi said their business premises are being targeted by thugs and asked the government to intervene as they are incurring losses.
“We would want to hear the government's views on how we can work together to improve security in the region as we are the ones who are mostly affected,” she said.
David Mwangi a taxi operator in the region said they lost one of their colleagues in December after he was attacked by robbers and his property stolen.
He emphasised on the need to have more security officers conducting night patrols in the area.
The area OCPD Alfred Makoma said they are working towards improving security in the area adding that police have arrested people suspected of terrorizing residents in the area.
