A youth group from Bobasi Constituency in Kisii County has been lauded for creating employment in the region.
The Bobasi Youth Enterprise that was launched in 2012 has created more than 100 jobs for area youths. The group has employed the youths to run a poultry business that has grown into a multimillion venture.
On Thursday, nominated Senator Janet Ongera called upon Kisii youths to emulate the group in a bid tackle rampant unemployment rate in the region besides forming many more new enterprises without necessarily depending on white collar jobs.
The senator donated Sh200,000 to the youth group which will be used to expand the business by opening an egg distribution centre in Kisii town.
“I am very happy to be associated with this group. You have made tremendous progress in the agricultural sector and you truly deserve recognition. If we continue like this, we will soon be the largest distributor of eggs and chicken in East Africa,” Ongera said.
She urged youths to take available loans from various government kitties besides asking for help from local leaders in a bid to create a free and economically independent community.
“I am told that the poultry project has created over 100 jobs and I believe we can do more than that. I call upon many more youths across the country to engage into such activities to help fight unemployment. We surely don’t need people to look for white collar jobs,” she added.
