A group of youths from Nyamira have given a granny who has been taking care of two orphans a new lease of life after donating items that will help in the upkeep of the young ones.

The group, dubbed ‘Nyamira Watch Tower’ on Monday through its representative Mr Kepha Osiri donated two beds, clothing, shoes and uniforms to the orphans following an appeal by a close friend of the Mrs Alice Kwamboka who has been taking care of the children.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com, Mr Onyinkwa said the group had embarked on outreach programmes that will see more than 100 orphans receive help from the group.

“We are the youth and believe in helping the society. The story of this granny touched our heart and I am very pleased with our members for responding promptly. We look forward to support more children from such backgrounds. They too deserve good living and that can only be done with us,” he said.

Onyinkwa called upon the government through provincial administration to ensure orphans receive the monthly sustainability fee from the government without necessarily subjecting them to bureaucracies.

“I am aware the government gives funding to orphans but at times the money doesn’t reach the beneficiaries. It is, therefore, important that the provincial administration do its work properly,” he added.

The two children have been living under the care of their aging granny after they single mother passed on following a tragic road accident.
