Two officials of Mwongori youth group were arrested on Saturday by police from Matutu and will be arraigned in court to answer to charges in relation to fraud and corruption that has literally led to collapse of the group.

The crackdown of arresting Peter Ombongi (Chairman) and Dominic Kiage (Treasurer) was spearheaded by the patron of the club Timothy Ogato who accused the two of mismanaging over 2 Million shillings that were set aside for the purpose of acquiring a pickup.

Mr. Ogato said the 25 group members were ready to give testimonies in court and promised expeditious recovery of the money as soon as possible.

“They have totally failed us and no one will tolerate this. We hope we will get justice expeditiously in court and all will be fine soon. Officials must carry out themselves in the most admirable manner as possible and this should be the lesson to those who think can defraud people,” he said.

One other official working as the organizing secretary managed to escape and police have launched a campaign to ensure he is brought to justice.

“It is true he managed to escape but as police officers we are working as a ream to ensure he is apprehended and join his accomplices in court as soon as possible. We are appealing to members of the public to help us pursue the suspect,” said Sergeant John Mutiso.
