Five officials of a youth group from Gesiaga location in Nyamira County have been kicked out following a vote of no confidence by majority of the group members who accused them of embezzling over Sh50,000 without the knowledge of all members.
Speaking on Tuesday after an impromptu meeting, a section of Gesiaga Youth Group members claimed that chairman Elvis Moindi and his treasurer, Kennedy Aminga, had failed to account for the aforementioned cash hence the unanimous decision to kick them out.
They further gave the accused an ultimatum of two weeks to account for the money in a bid to avoid a possible legal step against them.
“This group was founded on principles of trust and competency. It is therefore shocking that officials can fail to account for that huge amount of money. They remain suspended till they account for the cash or else we take a legal step against them,” said Evans Onkundi.
According to them, the other three officials were removed from their positions - secretary, organizing secretary and vice-chairman - because they failed to report the matter to other members.
However, Mr Moindi denied the claims of financial embezzlement and accused a section of the 50-member group of planning to topple him on personal grounds.
“This is purely a personal matter and I am being witch hunted by a few individuals. The committee is clean and we are ready to prove that the money under contention was utilized properly,” he said.
