Kibera Junction Self Help group is ripping a lot of money from their hard work.
The group which operates at Kibera junction off the DC office, was started in 2010 by 24 youths.
They engage in farming whereby they grow vegetables, rear chicken and rabbits and also have 10 fish ponds.
Apart from farming, the youth also wash vehicles where they charge Sh200 per vehicle.
Douglas Mosoti who joined the group in April this year said he has benefited from the union since it is his only source of income.’’
Speaking to on Thursday, the team chairman Edmonton Mugita said the location has helped them get a ready market.
“Most of our customers are foreigners who mostly buy African vegetables and fish,” said Mugita.
He said it is the group’s hard work and determination that saw them be recognized by the Ministry of Devolution and Planning which donated them fish ponds.
“The ministry collaborated with the National Youth Service and gave us the fish ponds. They greatly boosted our business,” he added.
He also said security is a challenge and thus hire a night guard to watch over their small farm.
