Youth from Nyamira can now access soft loans and hens for poultry farming, a senior official from an egg supplying company has said.
Speaking on Thursday during annual general meeting at their Keroka offices, Tumaini Egg Solution Chairman John Mageka said the youth group was ready to support poultry farming among youth by lending them loans and giving them hens to start a business.
He said those who will be willing to take the hens will be required to return two chicken after a period of six months with those taking loans of up to Sh200,000 expected to return the money with an interest rate of 1.5 per cent after six months.
“Our youth groups want to see youth moving out of poverty. We have agreed on the initiative because we have so many youth groups wiling to venture into business but lack capital for the business. Giving out a hen and expecting two in six months or a loan with an interest rate of 1.5 per cent in six months is not a bad idea,” he said.
Mr Mageka said the company would also be willing to buy the eggs from willing youth groups hence giving them ready market.
“Having started the poultry business, the issue of market is not a big deal. Our group is willing to buy the eggs from the upcoming groups hence providing ready markets. It is a worth business to start instead of sitting back to wait for white collar jobs,” he added.
However, only youth groups registered by authorities and that have been in existence for at least three months will be eligible for the offer.
