More than 80 groups in Uasin Gishu county have benefited from Uwezo funds, County assembly speaker Isaac Terer has said.
Speaking on Tuesday after giving out cheques totalling Sh11 million from the Uwezo fund to youth groups at Langas in Kapseret Constituency, Terer challenged them to take good use of the money since they would be paying for it.
“More than 80 groups have benefited from Uasin Gishu County and I urge youths who have been given the funds to start business since the amount is a revolving fund since they have six months to start repaying the amount” he added
He also appealed to the national government to come up with a framework that would ensure only legitimate elderly individuals get the required funds allocated by the government. The county assembly speaker insisted on the importance of forming groups before applying for funding.
“Youths should join groups for them to benefit from the fund and avoid being job seekers but rather strive to become job creators,” he said.
He added that the government should speed up the disbursement process to motivate the youth groups and promote wealth creation while stressing thee need for accountability.
“Each group will get an approximate of one hundred thousand Kenyans shillings and I urged all the groups that have been given the amount to be transparent and accountable since in the long run they will have to pay back the amount” he added.
