Youths in urban areas have been encouraged to invest in the fast-growing Information Communication Technology (ICT) and knowledge management to tap into available opportunities to benefit themselves.
Speaking on Tuesday in Kikuyu Town, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Vice Chair Rosemary Nyambura, said youths have a lot of unexploited skills which if tapped could help in providing the much-needed employment in the county.
She said youths needed to be properly guided in order to benefit from most of the job opportunities which are now available in the counties.
Nyambura said for instance youths must position themselves to benefit from the 30% of tenders for procurement of goods and services in government ministries.
She said there were many opportunities in the ICT sector and since the industry is growing fast, they should exploit the same.
Nyambura said youths should be more responsible and avoid being led by emotions thus indulging in alcoholism, drug abuse and irresponsible sex.
She said the constitution had opened a door of opportunities for the youths and the need to take advantage of them could not be overstated.
Nyambura said Kiambu County had great agricultural potential and much could be achieved if youths were empowered in value addition, processing and packaging of farm produce.
