Mount Kenya University held its 7th graduation ceremony at their Graduation pavilion at Happy Valley Grounds in Landless, Thika East sub-county.

More than 6,000 highly qualified students from the university’s different school joined the competitive job market in the event themed ‘The Role of The University in Steering Freedom of Thought and Socio-Economic Development’.

This was the university’s second graduation this year and comes at a time when the institution has embarked on a rapid expansion of its faculty, academic programs and physical facilities.

P.L.O. Lumumba, Director Kenya School of Law was the Chief Guest  in the event which was also graced by  the Vice Chancellor of Gulu University, Uganda, J.H Nyeko Pen-mogi and Ali Mohammed Minister of State Republic of Somaliland among other dignitaries.

Lumumba in his address, hailed MKU for being a role model in expanding his physical foot print throughout East Africa and for championing the freedom of thoughts among its students.

“For those who chose to be romantic you can say it’s a forum in which you cross - fertilise and cross-pollinate your ideas,” said Professor Lumumba.

“We live in a continent where we doubt our ability to sit at the dinner table of human civilization” Lumumba added drawing examples and quotes from some of the continent’s best known champions of  Pan-Africanism and social thinkers.

Lumumba however challenged the graduates to live according to the ideals of their careers and toaccomplish their professional goals in adherence to the oaths they took.
