A man died on the spot and another was seriously injured in a road accident along Nairobi – Mombasa Road Thursday morning.
The driver of a private car who was not identified immediately died on the spot after his car hit a lorry head on at Mto Wa Mawe River, a few metres from Devki stage in Athi River town, Machakos County.
Athi River police boss Kizito Mutoro confirmed the incident.
According to Joseph Munyau, an eye witness, the speeding car that was headed to Mombasa at the time of accident was overtaking another vehicle before it rammed into the oncoming lorry that was ferrying sand to Nairobi.
Mr Munyau said both vehicles had one occupant each, drivers.
The driver of the lorry was taken to Shalom Community Hospital for treatment after sustaining severe injuries.
The body of the deceased was taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary.
The wreck of vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Athi River Police Station.
