A middle aged man died on Monday night in a road accident that involved a speeding saloon car and a canter.
The accident occurred near Bidco area within Kiambu County.
Jackson Kamau a witness said the saloon car and the canter heading to Makongeni collided head on.
“The saloon car driver died on spot because he was driving at a high speed under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred. The canter driver escaped unhurt,” said Kamau.
A police officer who declined to be named confirmed the incident and warned motorists against over speeding especially during this rain season.
“Motorists should drive at recommended speed to curb unnecessary road carnage. Rogue drivers who don’t follow the set traffic rules will not be spared by the law,” said the officer.
He called on residents to report careless drivers to authorities so that they can be arrested before they cause accidents on the roads.
The officer said the deceased body was moved to a Thika hospital mortuary.
