Mohammed Abed was among the drivers of five vehicles which were being exported from Mombasa Ports to Southern Sudan when the incident occurred.

The accident involved three vehicles, the deceased’s, another belonging to the Commission of Revenue Allocation and a private car.

The driver to the commission’s vehicle, Salvatory Odhiambo told the press at the scene that the deceased’s car hit a cow, before ramming on his car from behind and finally hitting the second car making it roll several times off the road.

He said the vehicle later got trapped at barriers along the road and stopped before its driver was found sitting at the driver’s seat already dead.

All the three vehicles had one occupant each, the other drivers escaped without injuries.

“I do not know what happened, I was driving from my Kathome village home headed to Nairobi before this accident. A vehicle came from behind and rammed into mine from behind before I lost control of my car making it roll severally. Thank God I escaped unhurt, had my seat belts on,” said driver of the third car, Martin Kilonzo.

The deceased’s vehicle and that belonging to the Commission on Revenue Allocation were both driven to Athi River Police Station while the private car was towed to the same station.

Colleagues of the deceased ferried him in a boot of one of the cars on transit to the police station where they recorded their statements before it was moved to Machakos Level Five Hospital’s Mortuary.
