An audit report of the IEBC register has shown that the are about 1 million dead voters in the electoral body’s register. The report, released by audit firm KPMG, shows that there are 92,277 dead people in the roll, and it is estimated that additional 1,037,262 could be in the IEBC register. That data, obtained from the Civil Registration Department (CRS), was however not conclusive. “In the period November 2012 to December 2016, of the expected deaths, CRS data indicates that 1,534,009 were aged 18 years and above, and of these, only 621,832 were registered,” KMPG says in its report. The audit firm recommends that IEBC works closely with the civil registrar to get all information about the dead people based on the recorded number of deaths between November 2012 to December last year. More than 5,000 voters in the register do not have biometric fingerprint images, the audit shows.
