The national government has distributed relief food to the needy people in Garbatulla Sub county of Isiolo County.

Garbatula Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto said 1,500 bags of maize, 300 bags of beans and 60 cartons of cooking oil will benefit about 10,000 hunger stricken residents.

The administrator noted that more supplementary food for the elderly and children would be distributed in Badana, Sericho and Iresaboru and assured locals of more food supply.

Ruto said due to the looming drought, the national government has put efforts to address food insecurity to ensure no Kenyan dies of hunger.

“The government is fully aware of the drought situation and no resident will suffer hunger since we are routinely updating on the number of the needy cases,” said Ruto.

He said cartels who will be found trading the relief food will be prosecuted.

He urged chiefs to be monitor drought situation without interfering with food distribution by relief committees that are charged with the responsibility.

Ruto was speaking during a public baraza at Iresaboru on Wednesday where he presided over the distribution of the relief food.
