Kisii deputy county commissioner Peter Mbugi on Monday said police have launched a crackdown to end gambling in the region after Interior Cs Fred Matiang'i issued a directive.

"Gambling must end in Kisii because betting has led to increased theft among school going children. So far 10 gambling machines have been found," he said.

Mbugi said most of the gambling machine owners have been hiding the devices at their homes but police will soon catch up with them.

"Members of the public should report anyone hiding the gambling machines at their homes to end betting and gambling in the region," said Mbugi.

The commissioner urged parents to be more vigilant and report their children involving themselves in betting.

"School going children have been stealing money and property to participate in gambling and betting. Parents should report such cases to government officials for a legal action to be taken," he added.
