Mombasa County's Department of Lands, Housing and Planning has issued a notice, warning land rates defaulters.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the Department listed the names of the alleged defaulters and the current balance owed to the county government.
"Notice us hereby given to the under listed defaulters of land rates/rents that after expiry of 10 days from the date of this publication, the County Government of Mombasa shall initiate recovery through legal proceedings as provided for under Section 17 of the Rating Act, Cap 267," read part of the notice, dated March 22, 2018.
The county's Lands, Housing and Planning CeC Edward Nyale recently addressed the press, warning that those who had not paid for land rates in the County should do so before the amnesty period elapses.
"According to records from the Ministry of Lands, over 100,000 plots have been issued with title deeds in Mombasa County," an earlier statement read in part.
However, the department said the county's valuation has captured 70,000 only, with over 30,000 plots yet to be registered.
