Ten people, seven women and three children, are reported to have died after a boat capsized in the Indian Ocean.
Confirming the Tuesday incident, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy said the dhow capsized following high tides in the ocean.
The 25 passengers who were on board the boat were traveling from Ndau Islands to Lamu when the incident occurred at Mkanda Channel, the Standard reports.
So far 12 people have been rescued in the ongoing rescue operation.
The bodies of the ten were recovered by divers.
