Although keeping foods under refrigeration is understood to keep them fresh for future consumption, this is not always the case for all foods.

Some actually get spoilt under extremely cold temperatures.

These foods are:

1. Potatoes

Potatoes are supposed to be stored in cool places with a good ventilation. Storing them in a fridge will turn the starch into sugars making them taste sugary.

2. Onions

The moisture in the fridge always softens up onions and makes them become mushy. Like potatoes, onions need to be stored in places of good ventilation with low temperatures.

3. Tomatoes

If you keep your tomatoes in a fridge, the taste and flavour will be affected. They tend to taste watery and unripe.

4. Garlic

When you store garlic in the fridge, they turn rubbery and start to sprout. Always keep the in a cool, dry place.

5. Bread

Never store bread in the fridge because it will become toughened. When you remove it from the fridge and re-expose it to normal conditions, it is likely to go stale faster than that which was never stored in the fridge.

6. Honey

If kept in the fridge, honey easily crystalises and becomes grainy. The best way to store it is to leave it outside in a completely sealed container.

7. AvocadosString them in a fridge will hinder the ripening process. If you want them to ripen quickly, store them near bananas.

8. Bananas

Do not store them in the fridge as the cold temperatures interfere with the ripening process. They can only be store in the fridge once you are sure they have ripened completely.

9. Melons

The cold temperatures easily affects their nutritional value. Melons should instead be kept in the fruit rack.

10. Olive Oil

If kept in the fridge, it will quickly condense and harden. They are best stored in a cool and dark place.
