Ten suspects have been arrested in connection with the recovery of Sh2.08 million in fake currency in Subukia Nakuru County.

Confirming the incident Subukia OCPD Alex Ng’ang’a said that the suspects were arrested over the weekend following a tip off from members of the public.

“Wish to commend members of the public by embracing community policing and this have led to arrest of criminals engaging in economic crimes of distributing fakes money,” OCPD said.

The OCPD also noted that, the suspects had a piece of Ivory which police recovered measuring 1.5 feet.

“The investigations are ongoing and when complete, the suspects will be arraigned in court for circulating fake currency and possession of Ivory.” He added.

Ng’ang’a said that the suspects were picked at Kianoe, Ndururu and Subukia town where they were hiding. He said that the fake currency was in Sh 1000 denomination notes was to be distributed to unsuspecting businesspeople.

“We suspect that the currency was to be circulated in Subukia town and surrounding areas but the move was thwarted by police in collaboration with the public,” Ng’ang’a added.

The OCPD said that the suspects will be charged once investigations are completed.
