A class three pupil from Metkei village in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County has left the community in shock after his body was found dangling from a tree on Friday.
The lifeless body of Brian Kipkirui,10, a pupil at Kingston Academy, was discovered by his guardian.
Sammy Rono, said the boy may have been overcome by depression following the death of his mum several years ago.
"I brought this boy to live with us after his mother died several years ago, I took him to school where he joined nursery school," he said.
According to the star, Kipkurui stayed briefly with his grandmother in Kericho before an aunt took him to Kuresoi.
The boy had previously been working as a heardsboy in Narok, he added.
He said the deceased who was an obedient and bright pupil had been crowned the school head boy on the day he took his life.
Kuresoi OCPD Osborn Kadenge said police have launched investigations into his death.
His body was moved to Olenguruone sub-county hospital awaiting burial.
Nakuru Deputy Governor's wife Beatrice Korir asked parents and teachers to be close to needy students to enable them understand their problems.
"Such cases can only be prevented by staying closer to needy children who need love. They must have lacked someone to share his problems," Koris said.
