Police in Kuria West sub-county on Friday rescued a 10-year-old girl who was set to undergo female genital mutilation and arrested five circumcisers.
According to the Star, OCPD Evans Wanyonyi said the girl is now at Komotobo children's home.
The girl, according to the police boss, hails from the Bukira clan and was said to launch the FGM exercise in the area.
“We were lucky to rescue her before she underwent the cut. She has been taken to Komotobo children's home,” said Wanyonyi as quoted by the Star.
He added that four other suspects, including three circumcisers, were arrested in Kuria East sub-county last week while planning to launch the exercise there.
The women, said Kuria East deputy county commissioner Wesley Koech, were trailed the women following a tip-off from elders.
He said seven others from Kegonga and Ntimaru intended to carry out door-to-door operations to evade arrests.
“All the suspects will be arraigned at Kehancha law courts as we pursue other suspects who escaped to Tanzania,” he said.
Last week during a tour of Bomet County, Anti-FGM Board chair Linah Jebii Kilimo said campaigns againts the outdated practice had paid off following a decline in its prevalence.
