More than 100 Bodaboda operators graduated in Thika town on Friday from a month-long course on driving and traffic rules funded by the Thika Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a.

The bodaboda operators received their certificates from the MP and were each awarded Sh6500 and free driving license that will benefit them on traffic rules and regulation.

The legislator said that she is keen to reduce death by road accident as a result of untrained motorists who have caused many deaths in the constituency.

“There are many accidents in the county due to untrained cyclists and it has become rampant this festive season, thus we will eradicate,” said the MP.

She said that the graduates were fully equipped with knowledge and she urged them to educate the untrained operators in the grass roots to avoid unnecessary death caused by the cyclists.

“This knowledge should not go to waste but rather train those who did not have a chance to graduate with you,” she said.

The law makers urged them to change their tainted reputation of being the criminals in the area and alleging that many criminals and law breakers are bodaboda operators mostly from sprawling Kiandutu slums.

The MP said urged the cyclists to follow the traffic rules this festive season to avoid deaths as a result of accidents in the Thika superhighway.

She has condemned traffic police who promote corruptions from the motorists and assured the cyclist that they can now run their businesses without fear of license or untrained drivers.

She has however promised to continue educating the bodaboda operators come January where she will set aside money to educate them on the same.

The MP was speaking on Friday at Thika town during the graduation of the Bodaboda operators.
