The county chief officer of communication George Akongo said the contracts will be cancelled and awarded to serious contractors following lack of seriousness shown by the contractors.

Akongo said that most of the work has stalled since those who were given the contracts have not even visited the sites.

“There are problems on the grounds, locals need service delivery yet those who were given the jobs have failed to deliver,” said the officer.

He further said that some of those who were given contracts have no capacity and no financial base to carry out those contracts. Most of the contracts he said were meant to rehabilitate access roads in the county amongst other works.

Akongo noted that they were sourcing for other contractors to carry out the work on their behalf which was not forthcoming.

“They cannot do the job, they are just cronies who were being awarded contracts,” added Akongo.

He further said that there was over Sh 700 million development funds in the county accounts that could not be paid since the contractors had failed to do the job.

Akongo noted that the funds would be returned if not utilised thus the need to cancel such contracts and award them a fresh to competent team.
