One hundred troops from the Kenya Defence Forces who were part of the South Sudan peacekeeping mission returned to the country on Wednesday as Kenya begins it move to pull out of the exercise.
KDF spokesman Lt-Col Paul Njuguna told the Daily Nation, the soldiers arrived from Wahu, Juba where they were based.
More soldiers, according to the Daily Nation, are expected from the troubled nation in the coming days.
Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta insisted that Kenya will not change its decision to withdraw the South Sudan peace mission.
The move followed the sacking of Lt General Johnson Mogoa Kimani Ondieki as commander of the UNMISS force.
"Today we have started our withdrawal from South Sudan," Major Gen. Benjamin Biwott told journalists at the JKIA Wednesday.
There are about 1,000 KDF soldiers in the mission.
