Following the increasing cases of fatal crashes along Nakuru-Eldoret highway, police in conjunction with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Tuesday conducted thorough crackdown on the killer highway.
It is during the crackdown conducted in Sobea, Teachers, Salgaa, Sachang'wan, Kamara and Kibunja black spots that more than 100 motorists were arrested.
Salgaa Base Commandant Walter Kiptala told The Standard that the drivers were arrested for various traffic offences.
"We nabbed them for reckless driving, speeding, overtaking, carrying excess passengers and freewheeling," he said.
"Others did not have driving licences while some were driving vehicles with worn out parts," Kiptala added.
He said the suspects will be charged in court today.
The crackdown comes as the government warns that drivers found flouting traffic rules will be arrested and their licences revoked.
"We cannot continue with this madness, it is time to act firmly and decisively so as to get rid of these accidents," said acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday.
