Police Headquarters in Nairobi has recalled at least 100 police officers who had been seconded to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Boniface Maingi, the Director of Personnel, said the officers have been asked to go on leave for 10 days, after which they would report to police headquarters for redeployment.
"I have instructed concerned commanders to let the affected officers proceed on leave until January 26," Maingi said.
The move follows a directive by President Uhuru Kenyattta who recently ordered NTSA officers off the roads and let police patrol the highways.
The President said the directive was part of the government efforts to curb rising road carnage.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Transport Committee chaired by Pokot South MP David Pkosing from Tuesday had been inviting various stakeholders to discuss how to end deaths on roads.
