The women, led by former Cord women county coordinator Mary Odinga, criticised the Mombasa county government under the stewardship of Governor Hassan Joho, for allegedly neglecting them.

The women claimed they played a pivotal role in electing the county boss to office.

Senator Mbura on Thursday received the women who said the county government had not fulfilled its promise to them.

“We did not ask to be given jobs but we are not happy that even county tenders go to the selected few who are either the governor’s kins or close friends. That is why we have decided to decamp to Jubilee,” said Mrs Odinga.

The women delegation with a membership of over 1000, has now sworn to popularise the Jubilee Party and ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta is re-elected.

On her part, Mbura welcomed the move saying that time had come for women to stand and be counted in leadership roles.

The senator encouraged the women to contest for various leadership positions if they ever dream to change the African narrative regarding women.

“Kenya has given birth to women of steel like Wangari Maathai and Martha Karua who have battled in a male dominated society. It is now time for more women to stand up and be counted,” said the senator.
