It now seems that the gift Deputy President William Ruto gave Kisumu Catholic Archbishop Philip Anyolo is the new reason behind the animosity between him and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The two leaders who were until Thursday last week calm and friendly to each other have since begun tearing into each other.
Ruto gifted Anyolo a Mitsubishi Pajero 2012 brand which Raila now claims was bought by graft proceeds, but Ruto is having none of it, making it the latest basis of their war of words.
And the two are promising to go even further in their fight which judging by their nationwide support has once again polarized their supporters who have gone to defend each of them.
And Ruto is risking once again becoming an unwelcome guest in Kisumu and the larger Nyanza region which is largely allied to Raila if he continues engaging the former Primer.
On Sunday, he termed Raila a bitter nan who cannot stand seeing people aiding the church, adding that the vehicle was contributed by Christian leaders including Uhuru.
And as has always been the case, the issue is likely to build up into a bigger issue that might once again render the nation a political ring and take away the current calm.
Therefore, both leaders should consider getting another issue to fight over and leave the church out of it.
