Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut has challenged his Malindi counterpart Aisha Jumwa to quit the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and join Jubilee Party.
This is after Jumwa changed lyrics of a popular Christian song to praise Deputy President William Ruto during a church service on Sunday.
The MP converted worship song, 'Hakuna wa kufanana na wewe Mungu' (There's none like you God) to 'Hakuna wa kufanana na Ruto' (There's none like Ruto), to show her admiration for the DP who is eyeing the presidency in 2022.
In a tweet, Chepkut said if Jumwa really 'loved' and was loyal to Ruto, she should resign her parliamentary seat, defect from ODM, and try recapturing her Malindi seat on a Jubilee ticket in the resultant by-election.
"If Aisha Jumwa really loves William Ruto, let her resign her ODM seat and seek a fresh mandate on a Jubilee ticket. This is how people prove their love and loyalty," the MP tweeted on Tuesday.
Jumwa was recently expelled from the Raila Odinga-led party due to her association with Ruto, the Jubilee Deputy Party Leader.
However, her removal from list of ODM members was temporarily stopped by Political Parties Disputes Tribunal after she filed an appeal.
Through her lawyer, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, the MP termed her ejection unconstitutional, insisting it was made in “complete disregard” of the party's constitution and was based on allegations that are “strange and not recognised by any law.”
