The National Government has stepped in to arbitrate the MacKinnon Road town border dispute between Taita Taveta and Kwale County.
This is after Deputy President William Ruto chaired a meeting between Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and his Taita Taveta County counterpart Granton Samboja to try and resolve the dispute on Friday.
While receiving an invitation to appear before DP Ruto's meeting, Samboja insisted that the disputed piece of land at MacKinnon is in Taita Taveta County and called on all leaders to rally behind him to secure the piece of land.
Samboja appeared before the meeting accompanied by Mwatate MP Andrew Mwadime, Marungu MCA Paul Waweru and a 5 member team appointed by him in trying to find a lasting solution to the boundary dispute between the two counties.
During the meeting at his Karen residence in Nairobi, Ruto said the delimitation of boundaries ensures equitable distribution of resources, fair representation and serves the needs of the population and should not cause friction, disaffection or be a source of competing interests among communities.
Ruto called on Samboja and Mvurya to foster peaceful coexistence, seek amicable solutions and further inter-community relations instead of fighting over the disputed border.
"Leaders must foster peaceful coexistence, seek amicable solutions and further inter-community relations," said Ruto.
