Mr Kennedy Otieno, a father of seven, was reportedly caught by a stray bullet at a stopover in Kisii, while on transit from Naivasha on Friday.

"I was waiting for a matatu at Nyambera when the accident occurred. Police officers were headed to Daraja Mbili when one accidentally fired towards me," he said, adding that a good Samaritan rushed him to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

At KTRH, Mr Otieno, a peasant farmer, said he is unable to raise hospital bills, adding that he has school going children who also depend on him.

"I have three children in secondary schools who depend on me. Police officers visited me and only left behind Sh2,000 and I am yet to see them again," he narrated.

Mr Otieno added: "I am jobless and just depends on farming. I am told the bullet crashed my bone. I need better medical attention and the government must take responsibility."

His two wives; Caroline Achieng and Dorothy Awuor, have also appealed to relevant authorities to chip in and help the family settle hospital bills.

"We request the government to consider helping us. We have spent over Sh10,000 up to now. We have children in secondary schools. It has been a burden to us," they argued.
