The move made pundits refer to CS Matiang'i as 'Super Minister' others even questioning whether that appointment was made to reduce the powers of Deputy President William Ruto.

In an interview with the nation,  CS Matiang'i made it clear the new role neither makes him the prefect for other cabinet secretaries nor does it make him undermine other Cabinets secretaries.

In the interview, the CS said his new role is meant to clarify, not to confuse,  to coordinate not to undermine, to help not to hinder and to promote inter-ministerial coordination.

Dr Matiang'i downplayed the 'super minister' tag,  insisting all cabinet secretaries are uniquely qualified to perform their work and he was just appointed to coordinate inter-ministerial matters.

He also refuted claims that division arose after his 'elevation' as cabinet secretaries allied to DP Ruto felt the move was to undermine 'their man' claiming those allegations are a creation of the media insisting their working relationship has actually improved.

"Our working relationship has tremendously improved if the 100 per cent attendance of our weekly meetings is anything to go by. If there are any imaginary divisions, then they are a creation of the media and those who seek to politicise everything. For us, we shall focus on delivering services to Kenyans,” he said.

Even though he has that added responsibility,  CS Matiang'i maintains his main and primary focus is the interior ministry.
