Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has piled more pressure on President Uhuru Kenyatta to up his game in the corruption purge.
Speaking in Ingotse Secondary School in Navakholo, Kakamega on Saturday, Mudavadi insited that Uhuru must realize his threats to fire state officials who have been implicated in graft.
He urged Uhuru to take advantage of the political calm and goodwill coming with his 2018 truce with opposition boss Raila Odinga to wipe corruption out of the country.
The former Deputy Prime Minister added that its only through actions that the handshake will become relevant, considering that one of its pillars was the complete fight against graft.
"I am asking the President to order State officials whose dockets have been named in scandals, some amounting to billions of shillings, to resign.
If they don’t, he must sack them so that effective investigations can be conducted,” he was quoted by the Nation.
He advised that Uhuru's legacy will be at stake in the instance that he fault to bring the vice to the ground.
Mudavadi added that he will not join the handshake, as he would rather remain in the opposition than be associated with a 'tainted' leadership.
“Let the President send home those looting public resources to restore confidence in the citizens or else by 2022, his legacy will be an image tainted with corruption,” added Mudavadi.
The leader has been leading the opposition in pushing for more stern action against the corrupt after taking over from Raila.
