Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja on Monday hosted former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for lunch along Jogoo Road, a move that yet again signified how handshake has changed the political dynamics of the country.
In the company of Senator James Orengo and Makadara MP George Aladwa, the four leaders were pictured enjoying meals at a joint near Burma market in Nairobi.
"Great hosting Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and Senior Counsel Senator James Orengo together with Makadara MP Aladwa for lunch and interacting with wananchi at Burma Market earlier today," wrote Sakaja on his Facebook page.
Mr Sakaja was elected on a Jubilee ticket after beating ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in a closely contested senatorialsee elections in 2017.
But his moderate political approach makes him enjoy support from both the opposition and ruling Jubilee party supporters.
After the lunch moments with Mr Odinga, the four leaders visited the family of former Economic Planning Assistant Minister Oduya Oprong, who died on Sunday.
"We later condoled with the family of the late Hon. Oduya Oprong in Embakasi following his demise. Hon. Oprong was one of the few remaining members of the 1st Parliament of Kenya and served for years with principle and distinction. May God comfort his family and the people of Amagoro, Busia County and give them strength," he added.
Sakaja's latest dalliance with Raila Odinga could elicit a sharp debate in Nairobi politics given that he's keen to replace Governor Mike Sonko in 2022 polls.
While it's not clear which party he may want to use, the former nominated MP supports handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, a unity that could give birth to another coalition.
