The family of the late Stephen Mburu had gone to the facility to collect the body of their father only to be given a different body.Efforts to search for the body of their father among the bodies that were at the mortuary proved futile, leading to the conclusion that the body had been taken by a different family.“When we got into the mortuary we were given a body of a man but when we looked at it, we realised it was not that of Stephen Mburu. We demanded for our body. We were handed another one but still, it was not the one we had come to collect,” said one of the family members, as quoted by Citizen Digital. The mix-up prompted the mortuary’s management to recall all male bodies that were picked from the facility on Tuesday for re-identification.Five families are reported to have returned the bodies they had collected from the facility but none of them matched that of Mburu. The mortuary attendants were forced to counter check their records and that’s when it was discovered that a family had picked Mburu’s body on Friday, August 3, and transferred it to the Kirinyaga Hospital Mortuary, following a mix-up.Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago has assured the families that the mortuary will cater for any extra expenses that might have been incurred following the confusion.
