The Government has reiterated its commitment towards nurturing sporting talents among youths through the Sports Fund.

Speaking on Monday during the official opening of the Copa Coca-Cola Africa under 16 soccer tournament games at Nakuru High, Education Principal Secretary Dr.Belio Kipsang said the government is working on curriculum review to see to it that there is focus on sports.

The PS who is also a member of the sports Board added that sports and talent development was paramount in shaping the lives of young people and that they will work closely with other stakeholders.

“We want to give assurance to the young people that the government will work closely to ensure that the curriculum is harmonized towards talent development. We shall ensure the Sports Fund is used to nurture talents,” he said.

He called on the young people who have an interest in various sports to use their talents in shaping their lives with the available support from Government.

His sentiments were echoed by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, who said sports as talent can help address the many challenges facing young people.

“Sports can do a lot towards shaping the lives of our young people. I am happy that now have the Sports Fund Board in place and we believe it will deliver in ensuring more funds for our sports academies in nurturing talents” said Sakaja.

The hosts, Nakuru Deputy Governor Dr. Erick Korir, called on the teams participating to make good use of the opportunity in shaping their talents.

He also took the opportunity to state the steps taken by Nakuru County in ensuring talents growth among them the establishment and revamping the sports facilities in the country.

“This is your opportunity to showcase your talent. As a county, we are investing a lot in shaping talents through sports by revamping our sports facilities and in 3 years to come we shall see the development,” said Dr. Korir.

The Copa Coca-Cola Africa under 16 soccer tournament will run up to Saturday 15th December 2018.
