The 33-year-old center forward has been something of an enigma in Kenyan football since he matured from Mathare United in Nairobi to win a contract as a teenager with France side Auxerre, where he spent most of his footballing career.

Oliech has made an immediate impact in all footballing levels and was heralded as a great talent for the future, but was later criticised for a lack of ambition to the life of a professional footballer.

Oliech has now rediscovered himself and is almost back to his best, as evidenced by his fantastic winning goal against Posta Rangers in his debut for Gor mahia in the premier league.

He was also part of the side that lost on penalties to Mbao FC in the Sportpesa tourneytourney, where he netted a goal in his short cameo into the competition.

It’s a slight resurgence for the forward, after initially failing to fully convince Hassan Oktay that he can be trusted to lead the line for the champions.

He might be in contention for the national team call up, ahead of their participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament later on in the year.
