Two pedestrians have died after being knocked down by vehicles in separate accidents, within Homa Bay county.
Meshack Omondi and David Otieno were both killed between Tuesday and Wednesday, with Omondi losing his life along the Homa-Bay-Kendu-Bay Road, at Kanyadhiang' village.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was killed is tantly after a vehicle travelling towards Kendu from Homa Bay Town veered off the road, killing him instantly on Wednesday.
The incident was confirmed by Homa Bay County Police commander Esther Seroney who said that the driver of the vehicle, whom was arrested, may have been drunk driving.
“Many bottles of alcohol were found in his car. We are investigating the matters to ensure punitive legal action is taken against the culprits,” she told the Standard.
His body was taken to the Gendhia Hospital Mortuary.
In the second incident which happened on Tuesday, Mr Otieno was reportedly crossing the Homa Bay-Rongo Road at Sophia, before he was knocked down.
Witnesses said he was busy on the phone at the time.
"It seems the pedestrian was only concentrating on his phone without considering the vehicle. It became too difficult for the driver to avoid hitting him,” an eyewitness told the Standard.
The police boss urged road users to be very careful to avoid such instances in the future.
