Davis Ongiri was reportedly arrested committing the crime on Thursday, as he attempted to sit for a paper at Nyansakia Secondary School in Gucha Sub-county, Kisii County.

However, appearing before Ogembo Senior Magistrate Margaret Nafula on Thursday, the accused denied the charges, maintaining that he had registered for the exams to better his grade.

In her ruling, the magistrate granted the prosecution’s request to have the suspect held for more days pending further investigations.

She directed that he be held at the Ogembo Police Station for five more days to allow for conclusion of the investigations, with the suspect expected to again appear in court on November 19 to take a plea.

"The suspect will be remanded at Ogembo police station to give time to the prosecution team to conclude investigations," she is quoted by the Standard.

Ongiri is also facing allegations of giving false information to a person employed at the Public Service, another contravention of the law.
