President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that 1000 youths from North Eastern region will be recruited to the National Youth Service (NYS) by June.
Uhuru who addressed a rally at the Garissa Primary School on Saturday during a three-day tour of the North Eastern region said that his government is keen to empower young people through the NYS projects.
He indicated that various projects are being rolled out across the country under the National Youth Service.
“In our efforts to empower young people we will recruit 1000 youths from Garissa into NYS,” said Uhuru.
The President said that the revamped NYS is focused on empowering young people in various fields.
“We are running various projects and programmes under the NYS and we want to engage more youths,” said Kenyatta.
The President said that the NYS projects will be rolled out across the country.
Uhuru urged young people to engage in development and stop associating with crime.
