Construction of a major hydro-power dam at the Kerio Valley in the North Rift region is expected to begin soon.

This is after communities living around Aror dam that will be used for the project agreed to fully support it.

According to the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) Managing Director David Kimosop, families whose land will be used for the project will be compensated.

Speaking at his office in Eldoret town on Monday, Kimosop said once complete, the Aror dam hydro-power project will produce over 80 Megawatts. 

"We are still in discussion with families that will be affected with this project on how they will be compensated, but we had a meeting with them and agreed to fully support the project," Kimosop noted.

"Apart from the production of hydro-power, this project will also help irrigate over 10,000 acres of land as well as provide water for domestic use to more than 100,000 families in the region," he added.
