Alice Aprot, who is Women’s 2015 10,000m African champion has made an informed decision to only participate in one athletic category in the oncoming 2018’s season. Aprot revealed her new plan today (Saturday) during the Kenya Prisons cross country championship that was held at Uhuru gardens in Nairobi.
The all-time long distance African champion, Alice Aprot has made an unpredicted move as she is known not only for the 10,000m but also in track running.
“I have been participating in different categories for a long time just because I believe in myself but I have found out that for me to perform to my expectations, I will have to focus on one race, especially this season. I want to see what will be birthed out of this commitment,” said Aprot.
Aprot revealed this after she won the Kenya Prisons cross country championship that was held at Uhuru gardens in Nairobi. She won the Kenya Prisons women cross country championship after clocking 33mins 30.9 secs.
Celliphine Chepsoi trailed Aprot falling into the second position clocking at 34 mins 9.20 secs whilst Visiline Chepkesio finished at the third position clocking at 34 mins 38.0 secs.
In the men’s cross-country race category, Cornelius Kagongo, who hails from the Coast region left the spectators gasping after he emerged victorious finishing the race after 29mins 41.0 secs.
Western region was represented in the second position by Mangata Ndiwa who clocked 29 mins 46.7 secs whilst Wilfred Kimitei finished in the third position after 30mins 4.20 secs.
This championship was meant to prepare the Kenya Prisons athletic teams for the upcoming national cross-country championship that are slated to take place next month.
The championship will be the determinant for those who will represent the country in the Africa Cross-country championship that will be held in Algeria later this year.
