The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has listed down some dog food bands that are linked to canine heart disease which is also referred to as canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

DCM is a dog heart disease that results in the enlargement of the pet's heart. DCM is considered to be one of the genetic conditions in dogs, that mostly show up in large or giant breeds.

FDA has published a report which listed down some of the dog food brands linked to canine heart disease.

In a report dated Jun 27 2019, FDA "urges pet owners to work with their veterinarians, who may consult a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, to obtain the most appropriate dietary advice for their pet's specific needs prior to making diet changes."

The agency listed the following food brands, that were linked to more than 500 cases of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

The good brands were described as "grain free" having main ingredients like peas, lentils and potatoes.

The brands included:

1. Acana

2. Zignature

3. Taste of the wild

4. 4Health

5. Earthborn Holistic

FDA stated, "it is important to note that the graph below is based on reports that included brand information and that some reports named multiple brands."

FDA has said further information will be revealed in later stages if a specific dietary link to the development of DCM will be found in further investigations.
